Following our Briefing, The growing burden of dementia in Aotearoa: Scope for prevention, lead author Dr 'Etuini Ma'u told media new research shows social disadvantage is a factor fuelling the country’s soaring rates of dementia.

Dr Ma'u from the Department of Psychological Medicine at the University of Auckland, spoke to the New Zealand Herald about their findings which indicate Māori and Pacific people are not at more risk of dementia due to their ethnicity as such, but because they are overrepresented in areas of deprivation.
